August 16, 2014 - The Standards Trio (Kirk Smith on bass and Dave Derge on drums) gets a Saturday at redwhite+bluezz at the Pasadena Playhouse. Jazz tunes and standards, Brasilian and blues. August 12, 2014 - A Tuesday night jazz trio at the Oyster House in Sherman Oaks with saxophonist/composer Steve Carr, Paul Morin on bass, and maybe a few surprises. The music starts later here, usually around 9.30 or 10PM after the dinner crowd clears out, so come in your jammies if you want. Or come early and have dinner and drinks. All ages; no cover.

June 11th - a Wednesday - weird; I know, right? - at redwhite+bluezz. Otherwise, the same - a jazz duo: standards, bluezz and Latin with Kirk. We're learning how to do this, I think. Come see.
May 13th, 27th - two Tuesdays at redwhite+bluezz with Kirk Smith on bass. From 6.30 to 9.30P we explore the art of the duo.
May 6th - a Tuesday gig in the Cactus Lounge at the hipster-endorsed (so you know you're cool if you're there) Standard Hotel in West Hollywoood, with singer-songwriter John Cate. Violinist and longtime Bob Dylan muse Scarlet Rivera and bassist Brian Jenkins complete the quartet. We'll be doing a short, early (8.30P) set of John's country/pop; if you like both - or either - Roy Orbison and Steve Earl, you'll like this. I do. Lotsa harmony and twang. John's a busy songwriter with tracks all over TV as well as having several CDs released to great acclaim. This night is presented by Heavy Hitters Music - my old pal Cindy Badell-Slaughter's great placement outfit. Join us. Everyone you know will be there.
April 22nd - redwhite+bluezz on a Tuesday, once again, with Kirk Smith on bass. 6.30-9.30P; great food and full bar and all ages are welcome.
April 8th - back at redwhite+bluezz for a Tuesday duo with bassist Kirk Smith. Good food, nice folks, a venerable location. As always, 6.30-9.30P.
April 6th - Sunday night solo jazz at redwhite+bluezz. I'll be there doing the dinner shift from 6.30-9.30P. It's at 37 S. El Molino in Pasadena - adjacent to the historic Pasadena Playhouse.
redwhite+bluezz - I've been playing here a bit lately; twice in Feruary and March 2014 so far, with bassists Paul Morin and Kirk Smith, as well as a solo set. Next up is March 18th at 6.30PM to 9.30P with Kirk. We dig deep into jazz tunes, standards, Brazilian and blues. Located at the historic Pasadena Playhouse on El Molino just south of Colorado Blvd. Great food and drink, and jazz nearly every night and Sunday brunch. Check it out; it's a nice hang, and the kids are welcome.
February 15, 2014 - The quartet with vibrophonist/composer Carl Rigoli plays the brunch set at the Lighthouse Cafe on the pier/boardwalk in Hermosa Beach. We'll be here from 11AM to 3PM. Drummer Dave Derge (of course) and fine bassist Paul Morin will join us for originals and standards. Come check out the beach scene and this landmark temple of West Coast jazz.
January 27, 2014 - A new quartet debuts at the Oyster House Saloon (see below for location deets) with saxophonis/composer Steve Carr. We'll be playing his originals as well as mine and some tasty standards. Adrian Rosen on bass and Dave Derge on drums form the great rhythm section and singer/songwriter RJ Comer from the Dancehall Pimps joins us as well as a guest vocalist.
November 30, 2013 - back at the Oyster House Saloon for a rare Saturday night set of the big Three: jazz, blues and Americana. So kick out the relatives before they eat all the leftovers, or bring them along to this classic Valley fish grill/dive bar/music lounge. We'll start around 10PM, with Dave Derge on drums, a great bass player TBD, Albina and Lori, and special guests. Need I remind you - these gigs are rough and ready - we play everything from Bird to Buck Owens to Junior Parker to Townes Van Zandt. If you're into easy listening and positive love songs, eh, you might want to go elsewhere tonight. No cover, no door charge, no cranberry sauce.

Not a gig, but a reminder that my latest outside production project, The Dead Don't Walk - the new CD by L.A. club faves the Dance Hall Pimps - hits the street on November 5, 2013. There's a release party at The Mint on Saturday, November 2nd. The band will do a set, and you've gotta see these guys live to get them; they're a great performing band as audiences at the Roxy, the Silver Lake and Venice music festivals, and all over L.A., can tell you.
